Bringing the machine you plan to use at home allows your instructor to help with its initial setup and teach you how to operate, adjust and troubleshoot your own equipment.

  • A recommended sewing machine list will be provided before class.
  • Sewing machines will be available for students who do not bring their own.

Led by the founder of Buttah Baby Hair Imports, BBHI Academy brings more than a decade of professional hair-industry experience into one focused private training experience.

BBHI was established as a retail business in 2014 and grew to include a brick-and-mortar luxury hair boutique, custom wig construction and customization, international sourcing, supplier relationships, customer service and luxury retail operations.

With hands-on industry experience and an MBA, your educator teaches from the perspective of someone who has actually built and operated a hair business—not merely someone teaching a technique.

Rescheduling & cancellations

  • One reschedule is allowed without an additional fee with at least 7 calendar days’ notice, subject to availability.
  • Rescheduling with less than 7 days’ notice may require a new registration deposit.
  • Registration deposits are nonrefundable.
  • Additional tuition paid may be refunded when cancellation is made at least 7 days before training.
  • No-shows are not eligible for refunds or credits.
  • If BBHI cancels training, students may reschedule or receive a full refund.

Wear it, photograph it or use it to begin building your portfolio.

Students may potentially offer their completed wig for sale if the finished product meets appropriate quality standards. Because every student enters at a different skill level, BBHI Academy does not guarantee that every beginner’s first wig will be retail-ready or generate income.

The purpose of training is to build valuable practical skills that may be used to start or expand a wig-making business with continued practice and quality control.

Do I need previous sewing experience?+

No. The masterclass begins with sewing machine setup, threading, bobbin preparation, settings and practice exercises.

Is the class beginner-friendly?+

Yes. Instruction is private and can be adjusted to your current comfort level.

Will I make a complete wig?+

Yes. This is not a look-and-learn class. Students construct their own complete custom lace closure wig under direct instruction.

Do I need my own sewing machine?+

No. Machines will be available. However, bringing a new or compatible machine you plan to use at home is strongly encouraged so you can learn its setup, adjustments and troubleshooting.

What supplies are included?+

A complete wig-making starter kit, sewing machine practice sheets and a recommended machine list are included. The kit contains essential construction tools and supplies but does not include hair bundles or a lace closure.

Do I need to purchase hair from BBHI?+

No. You may bring your own human hair bundles and a new 5x5 lace closure using the supply guide provided before training. The optional Essential package includes two human-hair bundles and a 5x5 transparent lace closure. The Premium package includes two raw-hair bundles and a 5x5 HD lace closure.

Can I schedule a private date?+

Yes. Submit the date-request form with three preferred dates before paying. BBHI Academy will review availability and confirm one date by email. Preferred dates are not guaranteed until confirmed in writing and the deposit is paid.

Is a deposit required?+

Yes. After your date is approved, you’ll receive a link to pay the $250 nonrefundable registration deposit. The deposit reserves the confirmed date, is applied toward tuition and cannot be transferred to another student. The remaining tuition and any optional hair-package cost are due 7 calendar days before training.

Can I reschedule or cancel?+

The proposed policy allows one no-fee reschedule with at least 7 calendar days’ notice, subject to availability. Less notice may require a new deposit. Additional tuition paid may be refundable for cancellations made at least 7 days before training. Deposits are nonrefundable and no-shows receive no refund or credit.

What’s the difference between the two packages?+

The $750 Masterclass is one full 8-hour hands-on training day. The $950 hybrid Business Intensive includes that same in-person masterclass, self-paced Interactive Business Academy lessons and a private 60-minute Zoom strategy session.

Will I receive a certificate?+

Yes. A certificate of completion is included after participating in the full training experience.

Can I sell the wig I make in class?+

You keep the wig and may wear it, photograph it or use it in your portfolio. You may potentially sell it if the finished work meets appropriate quality standards, but BBHI Academy does not guarantee that every beginner’s first wig will be retail-ready or generate income.

Does the Business Intensive teach medical insurance billing?+

No. The self-paced Interactive Business Academy provides an introductory overview of medical wigs, cranial prostheses, benefit verification, prescriptions, documentation and ethical customer guidance. It does not certify students in medical billing. Coverage varies and reimbursement is not guaranteed.
